Reading is an essential skill and expectations are high for students entering kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. We conduct full-day academic camps during school breaks to ensure students continue to develop their foundation in reading skills for academic success.

PreK - JumpStart Reading Camp

Information

The lessons in the PreK camp are designed to accelerate the learning process for young learners to gain a solid introduction to the foundational skills of literacy.

The lessons are designed to introduce student to reading and writing skills through fun engaging activities like rhyming patterns in words and printing letters and numbers. Enabling your student to become familiar with letter names, consonants and vowels working toward being able to read long vowel words with the Reading Code.

Kindergarten - JumpStart Reading Camp

Information

The JumpStart Kindergarten Reading Camp teaches students the fundamentals in reading and writing. In the lessons your student will become familiar with the consonant and vowel sounds and be able to reading words and short stories with a focus on long-vowel sounds.

The objective of the camp is to the learn the consonant sounds, and long vowel words (kite, rake, rope). Students will read words, phrases and short passages that all use the pattern defined in the Reading Code. They will study rhymes by changing the beginning letter sound to make a new word (coat, boat, goat). These reading strategies help students improve their spelling, penmanship practice and teaches spatial relations.

Kindergarten - Beginning Reading Camp

Information

The Beginning Reading camp is for students that have a basic understanding of fundamentalconcepts and skills in kindergarten reading and writing. This camp incorporates essential elements of Decoding, Sight Words, Spelling, Fluency and Comprehension practice for Kindergarten level expectations.

Students learn reading strategies to quickly and accurately decode long and short vowel words (kite/kit, hide/hid). Students will apply the Reading Code to quickly read words, phrases and short passages for comprehension. They will study rhymes of single-syllable words by changing the beginning letter sound to make a new word (coat, boat, goat). Preparing your student for their upcoming year in Kindergarten.

1st Grade - JumpStart 1st Grade Reading Camp

Information

The JumpStart 1st Grade Reading Camp is designed students looking to gain an understanding of reading long and short vowel words with the extra step of a consonant digraph or blend.

Students will develop their skills that will allow them to read individual words, phrases and sentences taking them to the next level of fluency. We provide the students with the knowledge needed to decode a variation of words and phrases that are new and challenging. Through the collaborative camp students are able to share their ideas and build comprehension.

1st Grade - Intermediate Reading Camp

Information

The Intermediate Reading Camp is designed to transition students to a higher level of reading, by introducing them to decoding strategies for reading and spelling multi-syllable words in order to confidently read passages with increased text complexity.

Students will advance their reading skills by learning how to identify Vowel Team patterns in words combined with learning how to apply the four decoding strategies essential to read multi-syllable words. Students will reinforce their knowledge of the Vowel Teams through interactive spelling activities and reading passages created for students to develop their reading fluency and comprehension.

2nd - 3rd Grade - Advanced Reading Comprehension Camp

Information

Advanced Reading Comprehension focuses on developing a student's skills in recognizing different literary genres, narrative, biographies and folk tales.

Students in the Advanced Reading Camp will strengthen their comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills. They will learn the necessary tools to identify main idea, details, author's purpose, the different points of view, and make logical inferences regarding characters, plot and conclusions. Students will sharpen their writing skills by composing paragraphs in the four major genres: narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and imaginative.
