Reading Camps

Reading is an essential skill and expectations are high for students entering kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. We conduct academic camps during school holidays to ensure students continue to develop their foundation in reading skills for academic success.

The summer camp season operates from the last week of June through the second week of August.

Reading and Writing Camps are also offered three times during the school year: the last week of December, the school winter break (February) and the school spring break (April) During the summer, two additional JumpStart Camps are offered as preparation for students entering Kindergarten and entering 1st grade.

Kindergarten - Beginning Reading Camp

The Beginning Reading camp incorporates the essential elements of Decoding, Sight Words, Spelling, Fluency and Comprehension practice for Kindergarten level expectations.

Students learn reading strategies to quickly and accurately decode long and short vowel words (kite/kit, hide/hid). Students will apply the Reading Code to read words, phrases and short passages for comprehension. They will study rhymes of single-syllable words by changing the beginning letter sound to make a new word (coat, boat, goat). Reading strategies help students improve their spelling and penmanship practice teaches spatial relations.
