First Focus Learning Systems Program

First Focus Learning Systems is pleased to announce the start of our fall 2012-13 after-school program on September 12, 2011. You will find a strong schedule of Reading, Writing and Math classes arranged by student grade and skill level.

By popular demand, several new classes have been added including Advanced Reading (2nd & 3rd grade), Intermediate Writing (2nd & 3rd grade), and Advanced Writing (3rd & 4th grade). All classes are designed to be a fun and effective learning experience!
We also have a new series of classes designed to provide Parent Training in the First Focus Reading System.

First Focus Classes are conducted once per week, all classes meet for 2 hours.

First Focus is “Setting the Standard for Learning to Read“. Our Mission: Every child deservesteh opportunity to learn to read successfully; reading is the most important fundamental skill for lifetime success.

Our program reflects years of experience and research across all aspects of early childhood education. The First Focus Reading Program provides students with a proven, consistent and logical reading methodology that builds self-confidence and success through small group classes. Our small class sizeprovides a comfortable setting for practicing the elements of the language arts program and the process of learning to read. We encourage each student to take an active role of being a "teacher" for a part of the lesson. This practice shifts the focus of the class to various students and helps all students stay involved, optimizing use of class time. Furthermore, it reinforces learning and underscores retention, while providing each student with presentation skills and self confidence.

Pre-K Reading: for incoming Pre-Kl Students
The Pre-Kl class is designed to provide a foundation in the language arts. This class will cover the First Focus Charts 1 through 3A. This curriculum will address the names of the letters in the alphabet, the consonant sounds including the imaginary pictures to recall each consonant’s sound, and the reading of single syllable long vowels words and single syllable short vowel words. Students in the Pre-School class will cover the consonants, phonics, and the reading of long vowel words as defined in Chart 3A.

We also teach Penmanship within the Pre-Kl curriculum. Students are taught how to correctly hold a pencil or pen, the formation of both upper case and lower case letters and how to print words that they have learned to read. They also learn to write their name, home address, phone number and related written communications about themselves.
