Reading is an essential skill and expectations are high for students entering kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. We conduct small group classes to ensure students develop a foundation in reading skills for academic success.
The Pre-K Reading Class is designed to provide a foundation in the language arts. This curriculum will address the names of the letters in the alphabet, the consonant sounds, and how to recognize and decode vowels in a word. This class also teaches basic penmanship and printing technique.
The Young 5 Reading Class is designed to provide a foundation in the language arts. Young 5 students gain significant reading skills and confidence in reading single syllable words, phrases and sentences.
The Beginning Reading Class is designed to provide a foundation in the language arts for kindergarten students. We find that children exhibit enthusiasm as they begin to read words in Chart 3 using the "Reading Code" to decode long and short vowel sounds. Students get reading practice through the First Focus "Read and See Books" which have interesting stories and pictures that are designed to reinforce reading skills taught in class.
The Intermediate Reading Class extends reading skills by following four methods to read and comprehend words, phrases and sentences.
Advanced Reading Comprehension focuses on developing a student's skills in recognizing different literay genres, narrative, biographies and folk tales.
